PA Teacher Shortage Press Conference with Local Leaders
On February 26, 2024, our very own Sharif El-Mekki joined State Senator Vincent Hughes, Mayor Parker's administrative team member, and other political and community leaders for a Teacher Shortage press conference.
The press conference was hosted at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber, one of the Center’s Teaching Academy school partner sites. Local leaders discussed the implementation of solutions to address Pennsyvalnia’s teacher shortage crisis, including:
- Student teacher stipends
- Investing in diverse teacher recruitment
- Expanding access to CTE and dual enrollment programs
- Implementing a pause to the testing requirement to enter into a teacher prep program
- Creating the new Chief Talent Officer role within the Department of Education
