Black Teacher Appreciation Day – Meet the Nominees (Part 12)

The celebration of Black teachers continues! Meet ten more who were nominated as part of our Black Teacher Appreciation Day celebration.

Ms. Shemila Edwards, Philadelphia, PA: "Ms. Edwards and I have been close friends for more than 30 years. She has been the subject of many poems I've written, espousing my love and appreciation for her presence alone."

Ms. Janiah Sandifer, Nashville, TN: "This teacher has inspired not only me, but her whole team to become better educators. This teacher also inspires students to want to learn and become better in math."

Ms. Kathy Clark, Dallas, TX: "She was my 8th grade teacher and I was very difficult and didn't understand then the meaning of her presence until it was graduation time and I wrote her an email to apologize and let her know I thank her and made it to graduation and that I had no one but I thought about her and sent her my graduation ticket so she can see me graduate. The next step is the Police Academy, so I can come talk to her students. Thank you."

Dr. Bryten Johnson, Shreveport, LA: "When I doubted myself, Dr. Bryten Johnson was like a father who believed in me and encouraged me to speak up, which gave me the confidence to be a great student. Dr. Johnson was my favorite teacher because he taught me to ask questions and persevere through it all."

Ms. Myisha Celestine, Los Angeles, CA: "Ms. Celestine loves her students and embodies what it means to be a warm demander. She holds students to high expectations, gives them support when they need it and ensures they develop into independent learners. She is a gift to her students and colleagues!"

Ms. Nakayla Quattlebaum, Philadelphia, PA: "Nakayla Quattlebaum consistently goes above and beyond for her students and school community, bringing excellence, initiative, and care to everything she does. We are thankful for the way she creates meaningful learning experiences for young learners and for the dedication she shows both inside and outside the classroom."

Ms. Nicole Daniels, Newark, NJ: "Nicole is a knowledgeable, passionate educator and a true advocate for her students, consistently going above and beyond to ensure they have everything they need without expecting anything in return. Her unwavering care, commitment to continuous growth through professional development, and genuine dedication to her students make her impact truly unmatched."

Ms. Nina Hatcher, Wynnewood, PA: "Ms Hatcher has been a big help with us in helping our kids from being shy to happy little learner who love coming to school every day."
