CBED Students and Alumni: We Want Your Voice
The Center for Black Educator Development (CBED) is launching its first Youth Advisory Council, and we’re looking for current and former CBED program participants and alumni to help us build it.
The Center for Black Educator Development (CBED) is launching its first Youth Advisory Council, and we’re looking for current and former CBED program participants and alumni to help us build it.
The Youth Advisory Council will bring students and the Center staff together to strengthen our programs, community impact and youth engagement. Most importantly, council members will have space to freely share their opinions, ideas and suggestions.
As a council member, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Share feedback on programs and campaigns
- Identify ways to include more student voice in CBED’s work
- Help make our programs and marketing more relevant and accessible to teens
- Explore issues affecting young people and develop recommendations for Center leadership
- Help expand the #WeNeedBlackTeachers campaign and increase Gen Z engagement
- Build your leadership, creativity, and team-building skills
- Serve as a Center for Black Educator Development youth ambassador online and in your community
This is a year-long commitment with quarterly virtual meetings beginning in October 2026, periodic check-ins, and opportunities to participate in Center events. The council will eventually transition to a youth-led structure, with members setting the agenda and running meetings.
Council members will receive a $500 stipend for their time and contributions.
This opportunity is only open to high school and college students who currently participate or previously participated in the Center’s:
- Freedom Schools Literacy Academy
- Teaching Academy
- Future Teachers of Excellence Fellowship, formerly the Black Teacher Pipeline Fellowship
Applicants should be in good academic standing and committed to educational equity and racial justice.
